Andrew Sullivan: Princess of Alaska...An insult to all intelligent people...a farce...absurd...sign of a candidate who has lost his mind

Two candidates. One male, on the top of the ticket. One female, second on the ticket. Two resumes, similar in nature.

Two different standards for competence, experience, and qualifications = sexism. Women in the workforce know this well - the feeling that the woman has to work twice as hard to be taken seriously at the same job. Andrew Sullivan's over-the-top rhetoric gives away the sexism here:

She is the biggest joke to be put on a ticket in national politics.

But the male on the top of the other ticket then is not? Imagine if people had used similar rhetoric to describe Obama's candidacy - a "joke", for example. How long would it take for racism to be alleged by the mainstream media? Obama has been criticized sharply by conservatives for his inexperience, of course, but not generally with such over-the-top verbiage - farce, absurd, a joke, and so on.

Sullivan also calls Palin the "Princess of Alaska." Spare me the princess analogies. They are right up there with Barbie doll references.

I’m afraid I cannot join in. In fact I cannot say anything about this candidacy that takes it in any way seriously. It is a farce. It is absurd. It is an insult to all intelligent people. It is a sign of a candidate who has lost his mind. There is no way to take the nomination of Palin to be vice-president of the world’s sole superpower - except to treat it as a massive, unforgivable, inexplicable decision by someone who has either gone insane or is managerially unfit to be president of the United States....They knew she knew nothing and was utterly unqualified to be president at a moment’s notice. And so she spent the last week furiously prepping. As Maureen Dowd noticed, she is Eliza Doolittle to John McCain’s Henry Higgins.

This is very insulting to a woman who is the governor of her state, for goodness sake.
