Marina Yakhnis: Palin "relegates" her "bizarrely-named children" to the backburner

More from the Bad mother! files

Drake University Times-Delphic column:
During her feisty and charismatic speech at the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis, Minn. last week, Republican vice presidential pick Sarah Palin assailed Democrats who ridiculed her God and her guns. With God, guns and politics on the mind, Palin seems to have relegated another part of her life to the backburner: her five bizarrely-named children....

As I watch all of this from the sidelines, I can't help but ask why Sarah Palin agreed to run on the McCain ticket in the first place....The core issue, for me, is why any parent, Democrat or Republican, man or woman, would put their pregnant teenager through the media firestorm that is a presidential campaign. Everyone says that politicians' children make sacrifices, but Sarah Palin has asked too much of her daughter....

This is my appeal to rational voters on both sides of the political spectrum: in addition to getting fired up over a politician's theoretical views on issues like guns and baby killing, let's also, once in a while, scrutinize a politician on the basis of his or her concrete actions. Two weeks ago, Sarah Palin showed herself to be capable of subjecting her pregnant daughter to a highly traumatic political campaign when neither her daughter nor her country really needs it.

You know I think this one might just be one of the worst yet, bashing the kids names, sheesh.

The only scrutiny of Bristol is coming from the liberals. If they'd stop being morons for half a second and think about this there wouldn't be any "firestorm".

Sometimes reading these make me so mad, right now I can't wait for November, hopefully we'll win and the Obamaites won't even know what hit them.

Sarah Palin in 2012!

Yeah, her name choice has so much to do with her policies...

As the author of that article, I would just like to say that it was completely taken out of context. Perhaps the moderator, who took so many liberties with editing it, would like to post the WHOLE thing.

Chopping the article up and not bothering to make your cherry picking clear is lazy to the point of being deceptive.

When Governor Palin mentions her family repeatedly in her acceptance speech, mentions her daughter's "choice" regarding her pregnancy publicly and repeatedly, treats her youngest son as a prop to be passed around for the cameras during the speech, and has her daughters fiance sit with her family in the box during the speech, it's pretty obvious who made the first move when it comes to her and her family. If she's going to put her family front and center folks are going to talk about it.

SHAME ON YOU AND YOUR FAMILY! You preach sexism, but all you are doing is adding gasoline to a unlit fire. Good job in proving your own discriminatory ways hypocrite.
